Got SAD? Get Poked!

Got SAD? Get poked! – By Delphine Baumer, Registered Acupuncturist

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is something that many of us in the North West experience during the darker rainy months. After a week of straight rain, and a big storm to boot, Vancouverites are hunkering down and gearing up to keep their spirits up during the darker rainy months here.

A few days of rain here are generally not a problem but on the long stretches of dark wet weather, it starts to weigh on our souls.

I’m here now to give you another idea which has been proven effective to keep your spirits up when otherwise they could become “SAD”.

Recent studies have proven Acupuncture to be an effective tool to combat and treat depression. By finding your own unique blocks according to your individual constitution, your Acupuncturist can help you to restore the balance in your physical and emotional self and help you beat the winter blues.

During these periods of dark grey weather, it is easy to become dreary and listless. If you find you are dragging yourself and not feeling your best, the weather could be a factor? Fight back and find an Acupuncturist trained in TCM and let them help you resolve blockages and deficiencies in your body.

Using Acupuncture and Moxibustion together in my practice I like to think of pouring the sunshine into my patients. Acupuncture has been proven to release endorphins (feel good chemicals) in the body and also to relieve stress. Many of my patients chuckle at the lovely feeling of “Acuhigh” after their treatment.

If you need a break from the dreary feelings of wet rainy fall. Consider giving Acupuncture a try! Look for an Acupuncturist who has been trained thoroughly (at least 3 years of TCM) and is registered with the CTCMA.

Get out of the rain, and get poked! 🙂
